Wet 'n' Slippy

Well - walking down my drive to get to the car I slipped on the wet ice and landed on my back - not a good start.

Rain stayed on all the time I was out, but managed a few pics for my trouble.

The MV 'Isle of Mull' had been in to the Garvel Dry Dock for a rudder repair so was fortunate to catch her as she was leaving to return North.

Greenock Docks - Winter Scenes

Snow and ice continue to dominate - curtailing travel and holding up delivery of Christmas items.

Both pretty and stark at times and quite dramatic looking.

These three images all taken from the same spot virtually.

Yule Festival - Druids of Caledon

Well it's Christmas and Festival time so as a change for me I went along (with a friend) a Yule festival.

Enjoyed and had a taste of Mead (more please) which was nice.

Glasgow Christmas Lights - George Square

Well it's that time of year again, so a family trip to see the lights and the Glasgow public and visitors enjoy the festivities.

Sadly the local 'Security' decided I should not be taking photographs and albeit the gentleman was very polite - he persisted despite me explaining the law and my right to photograph in public places.

They kinda spoiled the night and the mood.

Why are these folks not briefed on the law - http://www.met.police.uk/about/photography.htm - it's easy enough to read and available at numerous locations on the web.

Quote - "Members of the public and the media do not need a permit to film or photograph in public places and police have no power to stop them filming or photographing incidents or police personnel."

... and so the cold continues ....

The snow stayed off today, but it's so cold - minus 8 degrees at 10:00 this morning - that travel is still limited to Shanks's Pony.

Still, Misty is enjoying herself on her walks as she just loves to bound through the snow.

I gather we're in for a similar day tomorrow and schools are all closed in the region.

.... and even more snow

Just when you think it's getting a little better the snow returns with a vengeance.

Chaos throughout the area with roads closed and loads of crashes.

Missed two funerals today as totally snowed in.

Winter Sunsets

It's been a long time since my last update.

Weather continues to be bitterly cold, but hey, it's dry and bright.

Early sunsets attract the camera, even though my hands are about to drop off with the cold.

... and it snowed

Today we were treated to very heavy snow falls - the worst November snow in 17 years according to the news.

So, a mixture of dread and appreciation with this weather.

Travel is nigh on impossible, but it's all so white and quiet making it hard not to enjoy.

HMS Ark Royal - Heads Out of the Clyde

Well today HMS Ark Royal departed after off-loading her munitions at Glen Mallon.

Sadly she left in atrocious weather conditions on this, her final voyage in the Clyde.

So sad to see her leave as part of the savage cuts that our military are enduring at this time.

We wish her well on her final tour.

"Shoveler" - Heading Up to Glasgow

On a nice still winter day - 'Shoveler' is heading up to Glasgow.

HMS Ark Royal - Final Visit to the Clyde

HMS Ark Royal - Royal Navy's Flagship made her final visit to the Clyde today.

She transited Loch Long and berthed at the Glen Mallon jetty where she will unload her ordnance before heading North on Wednesday.

A sad day indeed, and the weather today did not give her a calm welcome.

Many enthusiasts (like myself) gathered near Glen Mallon to record what is now a historic - though very sad - occasion.

Myths & Legends Firework Display

The fireworks were part of Inverclyde's 'Myths & Legends' festival weekend.

I have to say the festival - in my view - has gone down every year from it's original concept a few years back.

It was a cold night and I was totally underwhelmed with the fireworks. Others around me echoed the same sentiments -one young lady saying it was 'rubbish'.

We could see Helensburgh's display across the river and it looked much more impressive.

Let's hope things are given fresh start next year and it all gets back on track.
