Knockhill - Eventful Day

Well, the question was - "How will the weather fair today"?

It was very windy, though sure that held off the rain. We got a few 'spits' now and again, but overall it stayed good.

So we had a good day today at Knockhill Racing Circuit, covered a lot of ground, and strangely didn't meet anyone we knew.

Busy & Stormy Night on the Clyde

Off to a bad start as the Massdam was delayed in sailing - coach carrying passengers was delayed in traffic

Weather was much better than expected - and forecast - at this stage

Asto Small Ships Race - Starts Today

Today was the start of the race from Greenock to Belfast

Conditions were far from ideal - wet and no wind. Not ideal for photographs either I'm afraid

Tonight Around the River Clyde

Went down to Greenock to grab a few photos tonight

AIDA cara was leaving on the next leg of her cruise and headed to Oban

The Asto Small Ships Race Fleet was back in the Victoria Harbour having raced off Greenock earlier today


Tomorrow's Itinerary -

Muster off Custom House Quay - Noon 'til 12.30

Parade of Sail down to Ashton - 12.30 - 14.00

Race start from Royal Gourock Yacht Club - 14.30

The quayside was fairly busy with locals popping down to see the fleet and take some photographs

The Greenock to Belfast Small Ships Race takes place to coincide with the arrival of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge fleet in Belfast.

The fleet are seen here gathered in Victoria Harbour, Greenock.

The main race will take place on Tuesday giving the fleet plenty of time to reach Belfast and join their larger friends from the Tall Ships fleet.

Glasgow People's Festival - 2009

Glasgow People's Festival was staged at Glasgow Green Today

Fine weather ensured a large turnout and the acts and exhibits surpassed themselves in terms of entertainment.

Danger lurked for the unwary - tho' friendly really

Birds of Prey were on display

This artist is really quite scary in what he does, photo doesn't do justice to the height he works at - and he goes higher still

Stunt cars were entertaining

The Rockin' Horse Stunt Show were incredible - words can't describe this wonderful show

There was just a 'good feel' atmosphere with mostly families enjoying a good day out.

Breast Cancer Care - Greenock Charity Walk

It was a lovely summer evening for this very worthwhile
event which raised in excess of £1,400 on the night with more pledged

A Pink Parade - and the organiser Helen Murphy has intimated she will definitely be organising another.

Even the dogs present enjoyed their extended walks

There was a really 'feel good' atmosphere with everyone waving and smiling

The half way mark - as the walkers were about to turn and complete the walk back to
the start point

A big well done to all who gave up their time and participated.

Clyde Clipper

'Clyde Clipper' - Clyde Marine Services latest acquisition arrived at Victoria Harbour this week

It's always nice to see additions to the River Clyde - and Greenock in particular

She is shown here with 'Battler' and 'Cruiser' at her stern

We now await delivery of 'CMS Buster' - another tug to build on the current fleet.

East Fortune Air Show - 2009

We had fantastic weather for today's Air Display - could have not been better

Everyone seemed to be having a great day out

With no disrespect intended to all the other attractions - which were all excellent - the Avro Vulcan Flypast stole the show - doesn't it always?


As always, the Guinot Wing Walking Team were exciting to watch


The birds of prey display was both fun to watch, and also very informative

Goathland (Aidensfield) Station

We spend quite a lot of our holiday time at the various stations. They all have their own unique identity and watching these trains with their awesome power and strength is a privilege.

My hat goes off to the many volunteers that work so hard to keep this fantastic line open.

St Mary's Church

St Mary's Church in Whitby.

It's a MUST visit for us when we holiday in that area.

You can access by walking from the 'Abbey' car park, or if you're both brave and fit enough, via the "199 steps" stairway. It's not really as bad as it sounds.

James Herriot (Alf Wight)

Again this year we managed to get along to one of those places we've always wanted to, but never quite managed.

This time is was the James Herriot Museum in Thirsk.

We're fans of the TV series 'All Creatures Great and Small'.

Another Museum I would thoroughly recommend.

Staff were extremely helpful and gave great advice on parking and where best to eat.

Museum itself takes about an hour to go around - good activities for younger children too.

York

As always, a visit to York is a MUST on our hols.

Starting with a little retail therapy at the 'Designer Outlets', and then park the car and walk in to the town proper.

A bite of lunch to reinforce us, and then we visit York Minster and the 'Shambles'

This year the temperature was in the 30 degrees centigrade making it very warm indeed.

Hornsea - A Holiday Visit

We took our normal run down to the Freeport at Hornsea as part of the holiday.

A little retail therapy is always welcome.

Always wanted to visit the Hornsea Folk Museum but this was the first year we managed to fit it in to our schedule

Great wee Museum, and very helpful and friendly staff.

If you find yourself in that area, I would heartily recommend a visit.
