Balmoral and PS Waverley

The Balmoral and the PS Waverley made a wee bit of history today as they both entered the Garvel Dry Dock for pre-season maintenance.

It was good to see the two elderly ladies together and something a bit special that they are both in the dock.

I expected a larger crowd to witness this, it was fairly quiet which surprised me.

River Clyde - Early Evening

Our first cruise ship of the year - 'Grand Princess' - departed Greenock this evening.

As she departed the container ship 'Lystind' promptly came in and secured the berth at the Ocean terminal.

She's Back - PS Waverley

 That icon - PS Waverley - made her first journey down the river from Glasgow today.

She did some manoeuvring in the river and went part way up Loch Long before berthing at Custom House Quay in Greenock for the night.

Tomorrow morning she makes her way up the the Garvel Dry Dock where she and the 'Balmoral' will have essential maintenance work carried out before they start their summer seasons. 

Good to see her back again.

Joint Warrior - Clyde Departures

Today was the day the various naval vessels departed the Clyde as they head out to begin their military exercise.

Some will return for a debrief but most will scatter to the winds when the exercise is complete.

The second exercise is in October this year so we'll look forward to that when the time comes.

A long day today as departures didn't begin until after 16:00.

Our company was good and weather varied from warm to very cold.

Joint Warriors - Friends

 We meet up twice a year to watch and photograph the participants that visit the Clyde for the 'Joint Warrior' maritime exercise.

Today we had a bit of relaxation - we always have fun.

A BBQ and some 'sherbets' were gleefully consumed.

We waited on the beach at Roseneath for over four hours as we patiently awaited the first departure from Faslane naval base. These events rarely run to a strict timetable prior to the exercise starting.

River Clyde in Variable Weather

 A few images in between some sunny weather and some showers.

The 'Island Princess' seems to be having a rather torrid time. She was supplied for the Gourock Kilcreggan ferry service when we were expecting a new build ferry.

She was taken out of service following an inspection by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and is seen here conducting trials.
