River Cart and Bascule Bridge

A wee run up to Inchinnan to witness the Bascule Bridge being elevated to facilitate the hopper barge and tugs as hey transit up the River Cart.

Bascula Swing Bridge - Near Renfrew

A rare opportunity to photograph the interior of the Bascula Bridge near Renfrew.

It was interesting to see the machinery rooms that house the equipment to raise and lower the bridge, and also the manual standby in event of machinery failure.

Bascule Bridge - Barge Move with Offshore Wind Turbine Assembly

Another section destined for Methil in Fife left the River Cart.

Interesting to see these various components pass down the river. This one weighs in the region of 500 tonnes.

Barge Move - Inchinnan Bascule Bridge

This morning we witnessed another section bound for the wind farms.

The section was loaded on to a barge and the tugs 'Biter' and 'Beaver Bay' assisted in the move as it progressed down the River Cart and underneath the Inchinnan Bascule Bridge, and then on down to the River Clyde.

The tow will be taken over by another tug - the 'Osprey Fighter' - for the long sail round to Methil in Fife.

Bascule Bridge - Barge Movement

A barge loaded with windfarm parts departed the River Cart this morning and will head South tomorrow with the tug - Dutch Pioneer.

So, I had another opportunity to witness the Bascule bridge rising to enable the barge to pass through and out to the River Clyde.

Another load will leave mid-July so will keep an eye out for that.

Inchinnan Bascule Bridge

Hearing that a barge was to go up the River Cart I headed to Renfrew.

My expectations were that the Inchinnan Bascule Bridge would open to allow the barge to transit, but not all went to plan.

Unsure why, but the move was deferred.

I carried on up to Braehead to catch a shot of the Dutch tug that brought the barge to our waters.

I also took a few of the bridge itself. I've crossed this bridge so many times in my car but never stopped to get a few images, so this at least made my trip worthwhile.
