HMS Vigilant returns to Faslane Naval Base

HMS Vigilant returned to her home base at Faslane late this afternoon.

Very dull and then the rain came to make things a bit more difficult to get quality images.

T-Class RN Submarine outbound from Faslane as the sun set.

My intended subject today was a no show due to mechanical problems.

Lucky enough to catch this submarine as she left Faslane.

Wet and murky as the sunset time approached rapidly so pleased I got a few images that I think are worthwhile.

US Navy Ohio Class Submarine at Faslane

Very fortunate to catch an Ohio Class submarine of the US Navy as she went up to Faslane on the Gareloch in Scotland this morning.

I gather it's the first time a USN SSBN has visited Faslane since 2001.

In the US Navy ballistic missile submarines are designated SSBN (Ship, Submersible, Ballistic, Nuclear) and are nicknamed 'boomers.'

The sun shone brightly to greet her arrival, and there was some excitement on shore as she passed the Rhu Narrows bound for Faslane Naval Base.

HMS Artful - Faslane Arrival

The Royal Navy's latest nuclear-powered submarine HMS Artful arrived at Faslane today - the first of many visits to her base.

She is the third in the Astute Class and will join 'Astute' and 'Ambush' once accepted by the navy from BAE Systems.

It's a pity the weather closed in just as she arrived, but I've managed a few images and hope you enjoy them.

Rhu Spit Activity

I arrived nice and early to get some shots of the outbound US Navy Virginia Class submarine.

The heavens opened and the rain came down heavy as I parked - not encouraging.

Fortunately the shower passed and I made my way down to the beach at Rhu Spit.

She left as expected and I then stayed on to catch the Belgian minesweeper coming in to berth at the Faslane Naval Base.

Also managed a few shots as the light changed as the sun mace up over the marina.
