Tall Ships Race 2011 - Greenock Event - Day Four - Departures

With more than a tinge of sadness we watch the departure of the Tall Ships and their Crews as they leave Greenock on the next leg of their race.

It has been a very rewarding four days, plus another few with the early arrivals.

We were privileged that they docked in Greenock and as it was in 1999 they last came here, it will no doubt be some time before we host them again.

The crews have been tremendous ambassadors for their ships and countries, and brought liveliness to this area while they were here.

Haste ye back.

Tall Ships Race 2011 - Greenock Event - Day Three

As expected the third day was quieter but still a large number of visitors turned out in the nice Greenock sunny weather.

Access to the ships was easier as the queues were not just so long.

Tall Ships Race 2011 - Greenock Visit

Another shift in - getting images as the event ramps up to opening tomorrow.

Looking better but better hope for dry weather or we could experience some very heavy ground.

Can't believe that I have another four days, and three nights of activity.

Lack of parking concerns me if I'm honest - seems like it's public transport or shank's pony.

Tall Ships Event - Greenock 2011

STS Mir was the first arrival and berthed safely at the Inchgreen Dry Dock quay.

I was very kindly invited aboard and given a tour by one of the young officers aboard.

Tall Ships Race - Greenock 2011

The event starts on 9th July and runs for four days, so it seemed a good idea to document the progress as it kicks off in under six days.

Some parts are looking very smart indeed, but there is still parts that are being worked on to bring them up to standard.
