Coal Mine - Summerlee Industrial Museum

'Going Underground' is a tour of the  Summerlee Coal Company pithead mine.

This is a recreated 'addit' mine - entered by a slope from ground level - and shows the terrible conditions in which the miners worked.

  Damp, fear of gas, extremely cramped, and 14 - 16 hour shifts with no return above ground till the shift ended.

Life expectancy of miners was much reduced.

Dusseldorf Tram (392) - Summerlee Museum

During my tour of the Summerlee Industrial Museum in Coatbridge today I took a journey on one of the trams.

A bargain for one pound - full day ticket.

 This one was originally from Dusseldorf in Germany.

It's a credit to the volunteers who keep the trams in good maintenance and available to run them on the day.

First of today's updates from a visit to Summerlee Industrial Museum.

A very friendly place with the staff always informative and pleasant.

Heritage vehicles were on display today to add a bit of variety.

Pity the rain tried to dampen our enthusiasm, but we won over in the end.

Summerlee Museum, Coatbridge

 
 As I was in the area I went up to the Summerlee Museum in Coatbridge.

It's many years  since I visited last and it has come on leaps and bounds with their exhibits and well worth a visit.

Even took a trip on the 'shoogly' - an apt description for the old trams - and thoroughly enjoyed.
