West Highland Railway Line - Steam Train

Steam locomotive 'The Lancashire Fusilier' 45407 headed North today to take up her duties on the 'Jacobite' train tours that operate between Fort William and Mallaig over the summer months.

Here we can see her at Garelochhead station as she awaited the South bound Sprinters before she could continue her journey.

As usual she looked spick and span and as always she attracted a fair amount of attention from her admirers.

Steam Trains Head North - West Highland Line

Despite the miserable 'summer' weather continuing to make things challenging - I went across to Garelochhead to get a few images of the steam train heading to Fort William for the start of the summer Jacobite train tours.

It rained hard while they were at the station - so images are perhaps not as nice as I would have liked.

West Highland Railway Line - Tour Train

Knowing it would be dark before this steam tour arrived in my own neck of the woods, headed North.

Most of the images are in Crianlarich station when the locomotives stopped for about an hour to take water before continuing on their journey.

Didn't count the carriages but it was a long train and a class 47 diesel took up the rear.

As always we hope for better light but the day was fairly dismal ending in rain before it arrived at Arrochar en-route to her destination.

West Highland Railway Line - Steam and Diesel

A rather miserable Sunday with the weather, although Andy Murray brightened us up no end with his magnificent Olympic Gold Medal win.

Nipped across to Bowling Station and caught these in the rain.

Kinda makes it worthwhile.

Vintage Trains - West Highland Line

Another wee run across the water to get a glimpse of a steam locomotive with a diesel escort as they headed up to Fort William.

Arrived at Helensburgh only to find they had arrived early and too far up the platform to get any decent images, so taking a chance, headed for Garelochhead station.

Saw them passing me as heading up, and with slow traffic ahead of me I wondered if this was to be my day.

Finally arriving I found to my joy that their stay was extended as they waited on the Southbound 'Sprinter' coming down.

The crew were a great bunch and kindly allowed me access to both cabs, so we now know this was to be a good day after all.
