Edinburgh Military Tattoo Fireworks

After a day on the Royal Mile enjoying the Fringe Festival acts it was over to Calton Hill to take in the Military Tattoo firework display.

With some guidance on timings from a new friend while setting up, I was able to maximise my shots.

The display was very colourful and rewarding to watch - even though the night temperatures are beginning to drop.

Rock of Ages Event at Dumbarton Castle

Yet another winning event from Historic Scotland.

This took place over the weekend and I managed to get across on the Sunday for a few hours.

As always credit goes to all the participants who give us such spectacular events through their energetic efforts.

I believe around 1,200+ visitors turned up on each day, and if this event is staged again next year I expect it would be even busier as word of mouth spreads.

A good humoured show was put on in the central area in front of the castle, and there was much to see and do with a friendly atmosphere.

Stirling Castle

The weather being fairly poor a visit to Stirling Castle seemed a good choice.

I visited in 2012 with the promise to return - and here I am.

This is a wonderful attraction with plenty to see - and complimented with very helpful and informative staff.

Historic Scotland do a fantastic job with their properties and I'm always impressed with the staff.

Their membership is in my opinion extremely good value.

The castle was well worth the second visit and I'm sure I'll return again.

Kinneil House

So after the visit to the Kelpies it was on to Bo'ness for a visit to Kinneil House.

The house is only open four times a year and contains some artwork on the internal walls.

Sadly I can't show the interior as the staff were insistent that taking photographs was verboten.

I explained that my cameras had no flash but it was a firm and blanket no. Notices inside clearly stated no 'flash' photography and I would of course respected this, so very disappointed with the lack of flexibility shown.

Being a member of Historic Scotland I always praise the friendliness of the staff but not on this occasion - voluntary staff may explain the differences.

However, I would highly praise the lady who gave the presentation inside as she explained the history and the story of the 'white lady'.
