Catalina - Miss Pick Up - at Loch Lomond

'Miss Pick Up' dropped in to Tarbet Bay on Loch Lomond this morning.

Catalina (PBY-5A) second World War II aircraft that operated it's military career with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

She was picking up passengers about to embark on a field trip to Greenland.

This is the first time she has landed at Loch Lomond and this was an exception.

She is not permitted to land on fresh water anywhere in England.

Based at Duxford Airfield from where she is operated by 'Plane Sailing'.

Loch Lomond on an Early Morning Trip

An early morning trip to get some images of the famed Milarrochy tree on the shores of Loch Lomond.

Things didn't quite go to plan as we had some difficulty in the dark as we tried to locate the tree itself.

Eventually we abandoned the initial project and carried on down the loch and got some nice images as the light began to arrive.

Heading back we eventually found the location of the tree, and though not the light we had hoped for it seemed a good idea to get a few images in the bag.

I've had a few nice positive comments on the tree image and pleased with that, but will try and visit again when the light may be more favourable for better images.

Maid of the Loch

The 'Maid of the Loch' lies alongside the pier at the head of Loch Lomond.

The aim is to return her to steam operation in 2013 but much is yet to be done on raising the necessary funds.

Just a bit sad aboard her, but she is clean and tidy and hopefully she gets restored and out on the loch again soon.
