Toward Point Coastal Battery

Popped up to see the remains of the Toward Point Coastal Battery  from World War 2.

Quite impressive that so much of the buildings still stand.

Three Loch Classic Car Event

Today we have the Three Loch Classic Car Event and a lovely sunny and warm morning ensured everyone was in good spirits.

The Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club once again play host - this is their 12th year and a great setting.

The event started around 10:00 and the cars planned to drive through Helensburgh, Glen Fruin, Rosneath, and Arrochar, before tackling the old 'Rest and Be Thankful' then returning via Glen Douglas.

I'm unsure if the route was completed as their was a serious road traffic accident on the Loch Lomond road and there were long tailbacks as I headed home.

Day Trip to Lochgilphead Area

A wee day out to Lochgilphead with a couple of friends to take in the scenery and get some photos.

A good drive up and straight to Ardrishaig to see the end of the Crinan Canal.

Bright and sunny but bitterly cold - still we can't have everything.

Then headed up to the canal locks and stopped for a coffee and sandwich and let Maya out for a walk plus some dog food and water.

Onwards to Crinan Harbour - consisted of a single pontoon - but a nice atmosphere.

A drive round to Crinan where the canal basin leads to the sea.

Some interesting craft so a walk around and chatted with some of the locals doing restoration work, and also one of the canal staff.

On the move again and back to Lochgilphead where I'd arrange to meet an old friend who I hadn't seen in - I guess - about 25 years. Another coffee and sandwich in his garden and enjoyed the warmth of the sun out of the wind.

He recommended a visit to Dunadd and that proved very worthwhile, and also visited the standing stones in the area.

Then to Tarbert but as hunger was getting the better of us we opted for fish and chips and a stretch of the legs. Sadly this meant we missed the light so no photos.

Back up the road and decided to take in the sunset at Crinan, and after that we departed and got home around 23:30 so a long but very worthwhile day.

Glen Fruin

After seeing the steam train head North I ventured over the old road at Glen Fruin.

Warm sunshine and beautiful colours all added to make my journey worthwhile.

Hope you enjoy the photographs.

Loch Lomond on an Early Morning Trip

An early morning trip to get some images of the famed Milarrochy tree on the shores of Loch Lomond.

Things didn't quite go to plan as we had some difficulty in the dark as we tried to locate the tree itself.

Eventually we abandoned the initial project and carried on down the loch and got some nice images as the light began to arrive.

Heading back we eventually found the location of the tree, and though not the light we had hoped for it seemed a good idea to get a few images in the bag.

I've had a few nice positive comments on the tree image and pleased with that, but will try and visit again when the light may be more favourable for better images.

My Day Around the River Clyde

A fairly early start and headed up to Braehead to catch the bulk carrier 'Golden Lyderhorn' depart from Glasgow.

Fortunate enough to also catch the 'Aller' as she made her way upriver.

Then worked my way downriver and stopped off at home to get a few images as the 'Golden Lyderhorn' passed Langbank.

Finally, down to Port Glasgow to catch her as she passed on her way to sea.
