A quiet (wasted) day today with no real activity.

Caught these two from behind the house last thing.

Watching the River Clyde

A wee bit of activity this afternoon as not one, but two submarines left Faslane base and departed the River Clyde.

The American was flying the skull & crossbones - perhaps indicating some activity in a war zone recently.

A run to the James Watt Dock prior to heading home gave a catch of the UK Border Agency craft - Sentinel.

Ship Images - Greenock

Nice weekend weather forecast, but this morning was quite cold and dull.

Autumn (Tanker) was taken off Port Glasgow, and the remainder are from East India Harbour in Greenock.

The members of the small boat club can see their moorings taking shape, but it's a pity they have to fund all the work themselves having leased the harbour area.

USS New Hampshire - SSN 778 - Faslane, Scotland

Expectations were that we would see a fair number of warships return to the Clyde after their Joint Warrior exercise.

Sadly we only saw this one, though worth the trip across to Faslane for this rare visitor to our waters.

In and Around James Watt Dock - Greenock

A cold and blustery day, but popped in to Garvel Point to see what activity was taking place in the James Watt and Garvel docks today.

SD Impulse had exited the Garvel Dry Dock, and Vos Pathfinder and SD Warden had taken her place.

Vos Pathfinder's work boats were being hoisted on the the quayside.

Ali Cat ferry departed James Watt Dock and Deep Sea One arrived back to discharge her catch to a waiting van.

Joint Warrior - Glasgow Ships Depart

Wet and gusty winds was the order of the day.

Photos were taken from the rear seat of my car through an open window.

I had the privilege of being aboard the Van Amstel  a few years ago and enjoyed the company and friendliness of the officers and crew.

Joint Warrior 2011 - The Sunday Arrivals and Departures

It's been a long day today, but enjoying good trustworthy and respected friends company helps keep us all going.

Weather held for us, and this made up quite a bit for a disappointing Friday.

Thanks to Michael, Chris, George, and Chris (2) for good company.

Thanks also to the MOD Police for their appreciation of why we turn up at Faslane for this type of day.

Joint Warrior Naval Exercise 2011 - Faslane Arrivals

It's that time of year again and the NATO country navies congregate in Scotland to carry out one of their twice annually exercises.

The weather was cold, very windy, and very wet - which meant that conditions were less than ideal for photography.

A few are displayed here on the basis that something is better than nothing.

We hope for better weather for Monday's departures.
