Fraser's Dragoons - Dumbarton Castle

A great day out at Dumbarton Castle today with spring weather.

Fraser's Dragoons presented their re-enactment much to the pleasure and enjoyment of a large crowd.

Muskets, pikes, and swords were demonstrated. The musket vollies were both spectacular visually and deafeningly loud.

This was to take us back to 1645 when Scotland was under the control of the Royalists.

My highlight was the dragoons charging to where I was kneeling taking photographs and unexpectedly - to me - they continued right past me. Fantastic.

I applaud the group with their dedication and friendliness to their audience.

Popped in to the James Watt Dock on my way home and grabbed a few of the Garvel.

A Wee Trip to Millport

Such a lovely spring sunny day today that I opted for a trip to Millport.

Caught a reasonable shot of the 'Solitaire' as I passed through Largs.

Across on the CalMac ferry to Cumbrae, then the bus to Millport about four miles down the island.

It felt more like summer and fish and chips was firmly on the menu. The local shop is owned by a very hospitable Turk and the food was excellent.

Then on to a nice ice cream with raspberry sauce to round off the lunch.

A good blather with the owner of the cycle hire shot and he suggested the seals would be a worthwhile visit - so duly obliged.

Walked back to the Cumbrae slip for the ferry and back in Largs about 18:00.

A great day out and very rewarding on all fronts.

Bro Deliverer - Glasgow Bound

Another cold and dismal day - but Spring is not too far away.

Bro Deliverer was heading upriver to Rothesay Dock so caught a few of her as she passed Port Glasgow.

A Wee Day Trip to Rothesay

A wee trip across to Rothesay today - weather not too bad - but not bright either.

Interestingly there were porpoises or dolphins accompanying us on the ferry trip from Wemyss Bay.

A nice 'fish and chips' from the Zavaroni fish restaurant was excellent and very good value.

Interesting conversation with 'Nancy' from the Isle of Bute Sailing Club as she told us all about the now defunct 'Lido' which is visible from the club.

Thoroughly enjoyable day, and may return when the summer weather arrives.

Whinhill Golf Course - Sad Day

Went up to the Whinhill Golf Course for a game of golf today.

A sad sight at the second green as some of the local Inverclyde youth had decided to enjoy themselves overnight.

Pathetic lives they must lead when destruction and vandalism is all the seem to have to occupy them.

I feel sorry for the ground staff who strive - and are very successful - in keeping the course  in great condition, only to see their efforts destroyed by these mindless yobs.

HMS Defender - Sea Trials

(HMS) Defender departed Glasgow today and headed down the Clyde to take part in her second sea trails.

She was to go yesterday but some sort of problem delayed her until this morning.

She is expected to be away for four weeks before returning to Glasgow.

Some images as she passed Greenock.
