Walk to Corlic Hill - Greenock

I'd been planning to do this walk for some time now, as I recalled it from my youth.

This is a walk I covered as a youngster and recall that you could view six shires - namely - Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire, Dunbartonshire, Argyllshire, and Ayrshire.

Although Corlic Hill is only 994 Feet above sea level, it affords tremendous views of the countryside.

I also recall that at one time you could avail yourself of scones and tea on the route, but this was something I myself never experienced.
 
I believe the lady who lived there for many years was called Peggy Rankin, and that the cotttage is now in ruins.

USS New Mexico (SSN-779) Departing Faslane

The American submarine 'USS New Mexico' departed the naval base at Faslane this afternoon.

She is the latest Virginia class and worked with HMS Astute when she was across in America.

Always nice to see some of our allies vessels in our waters.

HMS Illustrious - Glen Mallan

HMS Illustrious arrived at Glen Mallan on a beatiful calm and sunny morning.

All berthed with a minimum of fuss.

Great weather for the first day of March.

Busy James Watt Dock

With glorious sunshine I made a trip to Greenock.

The 'Vos Shine' was returning from her tasks in Loch Ewe and with her bright red colours she looked great as she entered James Watt Dock.

I had expected her to go to the Great Harbour as she is on a long term lease to Serco, so not sure why she came to JWD.

Pilot cutter 'Toward' collected the pilot from 'Vos Shine' to take him to the next job.

Also a shot of 'Finnarrow' - awaiting entry Inchgreen dry dock for repairs.

Around Greenock in the Sun

With a few hours to spare it was up to the hills to give Maya a good walk.

At times it felt warm enough to be summer.

Then popped in to the James Watt Dock on the way home and grabben a few shots of the Clansman in the Garvel dry dock for winter refit.

Finnarrow - Greenock For Repairs

The ferry 'Finnarrow' arrived at Greenock early this morning having been towed up from Holyhead by the tug 'Hellas'.

She suffered damage while entering the harbour at Holyhead a few days ago - my understanding is that her stabilizers were not retracted before she berthed and this caused damage that allowed water ingress.

She will be going in to Inchgreen dry dock for repair next week.

Tug 'Keverne' - Greenock

 The tug 'Keverne' passed Greenock outbound early this afternoon.

She had towed the barge 'Woolston' up to Govan having sailed it round from Rosyth.

So guessing we can expect some more aircraft carrier parts moving from the BAE year to Rosyth some time in the near future.
