Tall Ships Race 2011 - Greenock Visit

Another shift in - getting images as the event ramps up to opening tomorrow.

Looking better but better hope for dry weather or we could experience some very heavy ground.

Can't believe that I have another four days, and three nights of activity.

Lack of parking concerns me if I'm honest - seems like it's public transport or shank's pony.

Tall Ships Race 2011 - Greenock Visit

Not so many larger vessels moving today, but the site is a hive of activity as they try to get everything in place for Saturday's opening.

Let's hope the weather improves for the event - though the forecast is not encouraging.

Tall Ships Event - Greenock 2011

STS Mir was the first arrival and berthed safely at the Inchgreen Dry Dock quay.

I was very kindly invited aboard and given a tour by one of the young officers aboard.

Tall Ships Race - Greenock 2011

The event starts on 9th July and runs for four days, so it seemed a good idea to document the progress as it kicks off in under six days.

Some parts are looking very smart indeed, but there is still parts that are being worked on to bring them up to standard.

Grosmont Station Activity

Grosmont Station is usually quite busy and like the others on the line is very rewarding to visit.

A great value second-hand book shop and the platform shop are well worth visiting.

Goathland (Aidensfield) Station

A visit to Goathland is always rewarding. The small shops always have plenty of 'Heartbeat' merchandise - and although the TV series has (sadly) been discontinued for new episodes - it's good to see where it was filmed.

A busy station as we usually have two trains arriving close together.

New Bridge Level Crossing

Spent some time here and met up with a young couple (Claire and James) and chatted, so time passed quickly.

Pickering Station

It's difficult to have a 'favourite' station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - but Pickering does have the advantage of having a good little shopping area, and a market on Mondays.

We always enjoy a run down to the Station at Levisham. Very peaceful, friendly station staff, and the resident railway artist make this a must on our agenda.
