Merchant City Festival - 2013

A last minute decision to head up to Glasgow for the Merchant City Festival.

Caught a late afternoon train and was soon in Glasgow.

So glad I made the journey as I haven't seen Glasgow look so happy as I did today.

With the sunny weather and everyone intent on savouring the atmosphere and joining in the festivities it was a joy to behold.

The festival continues tomorrow and if you didn't manage along today I suggest you give it a try tomorrow.

You won't be disappointed.

Langbank Summer Sunset

A few images as the sun set tonight.

The paddle steamer 'Waverley' was making her back to Glasgow at a very serene and slow pace to add a little interest to the scene before me.

Lightning Strike Starts Fire in Greenock Flats

Inverclyde was hit badly with heavy thunder and lightning storms today, bringing torrential rains.

A block of flats in Campbell Street was hit by lightning and a fire ensued.

My arrival on site was curtailed by roads being closed due to flooding, but here are some images from the site as the blaze was brought under control.

The firefighters were doing a grand job and everything seemed to being handled in a professional manner.

I'm pleased to report that there were no casualties following the blaze and there were a few relieved faces at what could have been a much worse scenario.

'Hengshanhai' - Glasgow Bound

The bulk carrier 'Hengshanhai' transited the Clyde today and went to Glasgow.

Fairly dull lighting, but we do what we can.

Launch of the Greenock Town Heritage Trail

This morning saw the launch of the Greenock Town Heritage Trail.

The trail consists of twenty-one plaques located in pavements highlighting historic locations and historic people in the town.

As well as being a great resource for the local citizens, the trail will also be ideal for the tourist visiting the town.

Indeed we had many tourists from the visiting cruise ship attending the ceremony and embarking on a mini-trail with a local guide.

Sea Princess - Cruise Ship in Greenock

The cruise ship 'Sea Princess' arrived in Greenock early this morning on her visit to our port.

She looked splendid in the early morning sunshine and I'm sure her passnegers were delighted with the scenery as she arrived.

She will depart this evening at 19:00 - all things going to plan.

PS Waverley - Greenock

A very brief entry - grabbed a couple of shots as the paddle steamer Waverley passed Custom House Quay in Greenock at lunch time.

A beautiful day and she looked fantastic streaming past as everyone grabbed for their mobile phones to capture her picture.
