Outbound from the River Clyde

The submersible barge 'Dina Launcher' departed Glasgow today and headed to sea.

Her work of launching HMS Forth having been completed she moves on to the next task.

She was being towed by the 'Stadt Aardal' on the bow, and 'CMS Warrior' at the stern.

The 'Warrior' will only go as far as Greenock.

The submersible barge 'Dina Launch' on her tow to BAE Systems in Govan.

She was ably assisted by the 'Stadt Sloevaag' on the bow, and 'CMS Warrior' at the stern.

Thankfully the weather was kind till she had passed.

CMS Warrior

CMS Warrior arrived at her home port of Greenock last Saturday in blustery wind and rain.

I was given an opportunity to see around her when things were a bit calmer.

She is operated by Clyde Marine Services and is a welcome addition to the Clyde Port.

My thanks to the crew - and it has to be said they operate under severe and dangerous circumstances at times, but obviously love their work.

She has a few jobs scheduled already for later in the week and I'm sure she will be a busy tug on the Clyde.

Joint Warrior Exercise - Day Two Arrivals

Day two and we have some more arrivals as the minesweepers leave their anchorages and head up to Faslane to berth.

Later we have the Danish frigate 'KDM Peter Willemoes' arrive and make her way up to the KGV docks in Glasgow.

The weather in the morning is atrocious and I struggle to keep the camera dry and get some half decent images.

Thankfully after I travel across to Greenock the weather improves greatly.

KNM Thor Heyerdahl Arrives on the Clyde

The Norwegian Fridtjof Nansen class frigate 'KNM Thor Heyerdahl' was an early morning arrival today and passed Greenock around 07:20.

She then headed up to the KGV docks in Glasgow where she was safely berthed with the assistance of the tugs Battler and Bruiser.

Joint Warrior Military Exercise 132 - Departures

Another very early morning rise to get across to Glen Mallan (Mallon) to photograph the first vessel of the day - HMS Monmouth - the 'Black Duke'.

Drove through the heavy rain in the hope that despite the forecast things may be better than anticipated.

On arrival at Glen Mallan it was not only still raining, but very dark with low cloud. Hardly ideal.

Still, we persevere and after she berthed I headed on down to Rhu to catch the outbounds from Faslane.

Met up with a couple of the regulars so we chatted while we waited for the first to depart.

Lo and behold as the first one came down the Gareloch the sun actually shone and the clouds lifted.

After getting some images I headed to Roseneath as the sun was now over that side and got the Norwegian submarine as she left.

Then back across to Helensburgh to meet up with friends from Morecambe and a bite of lunch.

Then back to Roseneath for the two American Virginian class submarines - one outbound and one inbound.

Then a dash back up to Glen Mallan (Mallon) to catch HMS Monmouth as she departed, but arrived too late to get her coming off the berth.

A quick u-turn and up to Portincaple to get a long shot from the top of the hill.

Finally it's time to head home and get Maya her long awaited walk before darkness sets in.
