Glasgow with Friends

Belgian friends were having a stopover in Glasgow on their way home to Bremen from Skye so I was really pleased to have the opportunity to meet up with them and enjoy their company.

After a bit of shopping we went to see the Christmas lights at George Square and then on for a meal.

While in George Square a wedding party were taking to the carousel and the bride and bridesmaid very kindly posed for a few quick shots.

All in all a very nice time.

Joint Warrior Military Exercise - Sunday Departures

The busy days continue as some of the participating naval ships depart Faslane to head North to the West Coast to begin the 'war games'.

I have spent the afternoon on the shoreline capturing some images as detailed below.

The Queen Visits Inverclyde in Her Jubilee Year

Today was Greenock's turn to be visited by the Queen in her Jubilee year.

The public turned out in their thousands and lined the streets of Greenock as both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived.

Her Majesty’s motorcade arrived at Cathcart Square just over thirty minutes late to be greeted with a rendition of 'God Save the Queen' and a school children's' choir giving their all.

Unfortunately as the Queen went directly to Municipal Buildings we were not afforded a clear view of her, and a pity she did not go towards the choir as they would have surely felt rewarded.

After declaring Inverclyde Council’s new customer contact centre in the Municipal Buildings opened and unveiling the plaque - the Queen’s car drove via Greenock Esplanade to the Battery Park where her helicopter was waiting to whisk her off to her next destination.

A short visit it has to be said, but fond memories for Inverclyde's residents of the occasion I am sure.

Comet Festival Children's Parade - Port Glasgow

Today it was 'Anchors Aweigh' as the local school children from Port Glasgow held their parade through the town.

It was a very colourful event with plenty of noise from the leading Samba band and it was good to see the community alive and active.

Olympic Torch - Inverclyde

The Olympic Torch came to Inverclyde today and the crowds turned out in their numbers to cheer.

A good natured crowd waved flags, cheered, and pointed cameras and camcorders as the runner came through upper Port Glasgow.

Strathclyde Police joined in with smiles and waves to the crowd.

All in all it was a good event in Inverclyde.
