Scottish Airshow - Prestwick

I went to Ayr today to view the Scottish Airshow.

This is the first time in many years that Prestwick has hosted such a show, so it was to be expected that not everything would be perfect.

The good news is that flying display was free and the participants put on some fantastic displays. We experienced a few cancellations but that is par for the course for flying events.

What wasn't so good was the lack of toilet facilities at the viewing location. At the break the queue for the public conveniences was extremely long and there were no portaloos to alleviate the congestion.

On departure there was no form of traffic management in evidence.

Pedestrians were left to fend for themselves in trying to cross busy roads.

It took me personally over 1.5 hours to get clear of Ayr in the car which is not an acceptable situation at all.

Overall though the event was successful and I'm confident that if the event is organised again for next year then lessons will be taken on board.

Seabourn Legend at Greenock

The cruise ship 'Seabourn Legend' arrived to a humid and misty morning in Greenock for her first visit too our shores.

 Her last port of call was Tobermory, and after her visit she will be bound for the Isle Of Man.

Morning at James Watt Dock

Popped down to Greenock this morning to get some photos of the Irish vessels coming over.

I believe the 'Lough Foyle' was last here in 2009.

Dredgers 'Lough Foyle' and 'Argus' are going in for some TLC to the dry dock on Monday, and the tug 'Shrove' headed out to sea again.

A beautiful sunny morning and actually quite warm too which was a bonus.

HMS Onyx - Dismantling Progress

Work continues on the dismantling of the submarine 'Oynx'.

It is of course a sad sight, but having witnessed first hand the extent of the rot and decay it's difficult to see what else could have been done.

Any costs for remedial work would I fear have been astronomical and probably could not have been raised.

SD Victoria at Greenock

Serco’s training and support vessel the SD Victoria arrived back in Greenock this morning having sailed up from Gibraltar.

She is one of the largest vessels owned and operated by Serco Marine Services and is currently based at the Great Harbour in Greenock.

Her primary function is to support exercises and military training for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) including transportation of personnel and military equipment.

She was constructed in Romania in 2010 - and is also available for commercial charter.
